Lou tries the "Purina Diet" by Lou
I have 2 Dogs & I was buying a large bag of Purina at the store and wasin line to check out.A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. On impulse, I told her that no,I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn'tbecause I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming outof most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way thatit works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simplyeat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food isnutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by nowenthralled with my story, particularly a guy who was behind her.Horrified, she asked if I'd ended up in the hospital in that conditionbecause I had been poisoned. I told her no; it was because I'd beensitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.I thought one guy was going to have a heart attack he was laughing sohard as he staggered out the door.Stupid lady...why else would I buy purina dog food?? So besides spending every weekend playing, we all have bike & car projects on the go. I guess Lou and Cam are too embarrassed to send me photo's to post of their car projects, so I'll just post mine. This vintage touring model was the king of the highway in 1973, and was the same model used in the picture Electraglide in Blue. I was hosting a bbq last year when a friend mentioned that a co-worker had two bike in storage left to him by his brother who had passed away awhile back. Another of his co-worker heard the story a week prior and offered to buy them both. I phoned and told the guy I was real interested in the FLH, and seeing how no money had changed hands yet, he ought to sell it to me. So he calls the first guy and says "deal or forfeit". This guy goes to check them out at a storage rental place to make the deal, and tries to kick them both over. Now as they were in storage for a very long time and the old shovelheads tend to clog up in the oil pump when sitting, this guy gives it a kick and oil spews out of the bottom like the Valdez. He quickly passes on the FLH and takes the other. The restoration started when my good friend Trevor Butler offered to help rewire the beast. He noted that it needed a lot more help than a wire job so down to the frame, and back up with a lot of new parts, new paint, and many beers later here it is!Trevor is a wizzard at building bikes, and has the trophys to prove it. Were soon going to have a web site up for him so check out the link

Retro look, Retro sound and simply Cool Tube Amps
Any guitar player will tell you that the quest for that signature tone typically never ends. Once you find one, it's only a matter of time before you start looking for another. For about a year I was checking EBay for an amp that Epiphone made called a "Galaxy 25".Now maybe some one out there can tell me why these little beauties were never released in Canada? The series came in 10 and 20 watt versions with Celestion speakers and all tubes, with a cool retro look. Then just as these were taking off Epiphone cancels the line and replaces it with a lower end version of a Valve Jr. I suspect it is because Gibson wanted back into the amplifier scene, and of course big brother gets the top of the line stuff. These amps were selling for about $800.00 here in Canada if your music store could boot leg one in for you, where as the new Gibson amps are starting at about $1400. (they sound cool as well!)Maybe some one can let me know the story with this?So finally one day I notice an auction and long story short I won this thing.
So first weekend out it was awesome! I also hooked up an external speaker cabinet I got from
www.lopoline.com These guys also do a killer job on cabinets with all the detail you will ever want. This cabinet was made to work with my Fender Deluxe reissue and these guys custom sized it so I could stack this on stage. I am going to get them to make me a matching cabinet for this as well, and try to keep the look of the face the same.
I ended up with that "sweet Sound" I was after, the kind that gets broke up when you lean into it, but clean enough for rhythm.
The cool thing about a 20 watt amp is that you can crank it up enough to let the eq work. With my Fender I found I was lucky to turn it past 1.5 as this thing was 40watts of monster tone, but I could not get the eq to work due to the low setting.
The Epiphone is a Class A amp and once you catch the difference you may never go back to the push - pull over drive sound from pre amps.

Lou got this email yesterday (for real) from Adam in Colorado"Dear Mr. Fontaine,So I bought your CD- it's freakin awesome, Then I search more intoyour web-site and see this bad ass Javelin at the strip. Hey, some shots of our weekend getawaywith a few friends and a whole bunch of beer. This is the Cabin in Lou's family at Regina Beach. Not much has changed since 1950, and we like it that way.
Here is Captain Lou on Carp Patrol. These things got to be 8lbs and float on the top in the weeds. He likes to shoot them with a BB gun he got from his dad to scare them, and you can tell by his smile it's been a good day.....least that's what we tell the women, cause sometimes there's a lot of girls sun tanning naked. Lou likes to drive the old boat fast, and he doesn't hold a license.
I just read an add that says I can learn how to play guitar in only 7 days.....that sounds about right, but I think I am going to reply to the one about becoming a frog man. That way I can sneak up on the carp ......or pick up empties.
Can any one tell us what year this flag is from?

In 1962 Joni Mitchell was a young musician / Ukulele player who played gigs or feature songs at Waskesiu and on campus at the U of S."Nineteen-year-old Joni Anderson was booked as a one-time replacement for a late-night moose-hunting show. During the program Joni was interviewed and performed several songs accompanying herself on baritone ukulele. "Around 1964 she left Saskatoon, never to live here again.
Joni Mitchell went on to be very successful. My favorite thing is that she wrote "This Flight Tonight" which allowed Nazareth to make a very cool version of the tune. Other than that I don't know anything else about her.
However it seems that some at city council here in Saskatoon are still very much infactuated with this woman and continue to "push" to have buildings and streets and parades and the odd bingo hall named after her as I guess they think she actually did SOMETHING for this city. I guess if you call Leaving doing something for this city then we ought to name every street here in town after some one who left for Alberta over the last ten years too, except we would run out of streets!

Some body please tell me what the deal is!! I mean for a person to grow up and get a life over 44years ago only to have a desperate city yearn to create a monument to you for leaving??? What is going on??? I mean she already has a meat packing plant in her name....What else does this city want or need that is named Mitchell? Last, has any one even asked her if she supports this drive?
It should be noted that she moved here at the age of nine and was gone by nineteen. Maybe her home over the last 44 years has something cooking up for her, cause I don't think after this absence she can really call Saskatoon home. As far as the sappy city council of Saskatoon goes, I say honor hero's who have lived, worked and died here. Those who built this city and continue to contribute and those among us who burden the pressures of bad civic government and high taxes.

I do have a "girl" kind of love story regarding Joni Mitchell. Here is a picture of my buddy Mike. Mike was an adventurous kind of guy and hitchhiked across Scotland to catch a Joni concert. He bought an album that had a painting of the Bessbourough Hotel, and that was a pivotal point in his life. He was determined to go to Saskatoon, become a musician and to see that hotel hoping that Joni would be hanging around. (She was pretty hot in the day...) Well he waited soooo long for her to show up he eventually just stayed here.So much for his Soccer Career...

I am moving some of the older posts to this site as I can not load any more pics to the main blog.
